The European project seeks to transform greenhouse agriculture with innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact and improve food security.
The European LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project, 60% funded by the European Union’s LIFE program, is revolutionizing greenhouse agriculture by developing natural fumigants that combat pests and diseases in horticultural crops. This initiative not only boosts agricultural efficiency, but also addresses crucial environmental challenges with an innovative and sustainable approach.
The project works to prevent the use of hazardous substances, promoting safer alternatives for human health and ecosystems. It also focuses on minimizing soil contamination, guaranteeing its long-term fertility and quality, and on reducing groundwater contamination, avoiding the infiltration of harmful chemical compounds. It also seeks to reduce hazardous waste, such as packaging contaminated by phytosanitary products, and to reduce CO₂ emissions, contributing to the fight against climate change and improving the carbon footprint of the agricultural sector.
With a budget of €2,758,921.01 and a duration of four and a half years, the project is led by Fumi-Hogar in collaboration with strategic partners such as Finnova, BrioAgro, Comercial Química Massó and B&B Asesores. Together they are working to position agriculture as a pillar of environmental sustainability in Europe.
This initiative represents a step towards professionalizing the agricultural sector, protecting the environment and improving food safety, laying the foundations for a more sustainable model in European agriculture.
