Brussels, November 22, 2024 – The European LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project, designed to develop natural fumigants from plant extracts for the protection of horticultural crops in greenhouses, will be presented on November 26 at the AGRITECH 2024 EXPO, which is being held at the Trade Fair and Congress Center of Malaga (FYCMA).
The project, funded by the European Union’s LIFE program, seeks to provide innovative and sustainable solutions to major greenhouse pests and diseases, such as whitefly and botrytis fungus, through the use of biopesticides that are safer for the environment and human health.
The presentation of the project will take place from 16:00 to 16:40 and will be attended by leading representatives of the entities involved in its development. Carlos Ramos, operations director of Fumi-Hogar and leader of the consortium, will explain the objectives and importance of the project for the future of sustainable agriculture. Blanca Sabarit, Tecnova technician, will present the advances achieved in pest and disease control with these new fumigants. José Luis Bustos, CEO of BrioAgro, will address the tools for measuring air quality in greenhouses as an integral part of the project. In addition, Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova, will talk about European funding opportunities and the scalability possibilities of this innovative model.
Innovation and sustainability in European agriculture
LIFE NextFUMIGREEN has a total budget of 2,758,921.01 euros, of which 60% comes from European funds from the LIFE program. This project has a duration of four and a half years, during which it seeks not only to develop more effective and environmentally friendly solutions, but also to contribute to the professionalization of farmers in the use of natural biopesticides.
The AGRITECH 2024 EXPO, one of the most important events for the European agri-food sector, is the perfect setting to showcase the achievements of this project and discuss the future of sustainable agriculture in a context of climate change.
