LIFE NextFUMIGREEN participates in the 1st European Funding Day for Agri-Food Digitalization and Innovation at EXPO AGRITECH 2024

  • Carlos Ramos, from Fumi-Hogar, highlights the impact of the LIFE project on the transition to natural and digital fumigants.
  • The conference brought together experts to discuss innovative and sustainable solutions for the agri-food sector.

Last Thursday, November 28th, Carlos Ramos, representative of LIFE NextFUMIGREEN was present at the I European Funding Day for Agri-Food Digitalization and Innovation during the EXPO AGRITECH 2024. A key event to promote sustainability and digitization in the agricultural sector, organized in collaboration with the Finnova Foundation and the European Interreg HIBA+ project at the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos de Málaga (FYCMA).

Carlos Ramos, operations manager of Fumi-Hogar, the leading partner of the project, highlighted how digitalization can transform the use of natural fumigants in greenhouse horticultural crops. During his speech, he thanked Finnova for the opportunity provided at the European level:“The success of a European project like LIFE NextFUMIGREEN lies in a strong consortium. Although we did not know the agricultural line, with partners such as Tecnova, Massó and Finnova we have managed to develop innovative natural fumigants, optimizing their efficiency in crops under plastic”.

He also emphasized the role of digitization in the project:

“Our technology makes it possible to apply a natural fumigant in greenhouses and monitor its impact in real time using sensors. In the future, we hope to add artificial intelligence to optimize its use and sustainability.”

The event, moderated by Juanma Revuelta, CEO of Finnova, also connected projects such as HIBA+ and LIFE NextFUMIGREEN, highlighting the importance of European calls for proposals to support innovation in the sector. Revuelta encouraged attendees to take advantage of programs such as Horizon Europe and Digital Europe, which offer key funding for digitization and innovation.

With a budget of €2,758,921.01, LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is 60% funded by the EU LIFE program and seeks to transform agriculture through less toxic and more efficient fumigants.
