Brussels, February 12, 2025 – Yesterday, the European LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project, led by FumiHogar, took center stage at the session on EU-funded R&D&I projects within the Research and Innovation on Pesticides 2025 event, organized by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) and Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI).
During the conference, Carlos Ramos, representative of FumiHogar, presented the project’s innovations in the application of biopesticides using dry micro-dispersion technology, a key advance for sustainable pest control in greenhouses.
In his speech, Carlos Ramos explained how LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is developing natural fumigants from plant extracts to control pests such as whitefly and diseases such as botrytis in greenhouse horticultural crops. The application of these biopesticides by dry micro-dispersion allows a homogeneous distribution in the treated environment without increasing humidity, ensuring greater efficacy and safety for farmers.
“The main problem with biopesticides is their rapid degradability and that they leave minimal residues. From an environmental and food safety point of view, this is a great advantage, but in terms of product efficacy it is a limitation. In the LIFE NextFUMIGREEN project we want to combine these natural active ingredients with our smoke technology to develop a new tool to combat the most important pests in greenhouses.” highlighted Carlos Ramos during his presentation.
LIFE NextFUMIGREEN is 60% co-financed by the European Union’s LIFE program, with a total budget of 2,758,921.01 euros. The initiative has the collaboration of B&B Asesores, Comercial Química Massó, BrioAgro Tech and Fundación Finnova, key entities in agricultural innovation and management of European funds.
The Research and Innovation on Pesticides 2025 event, organized by DG SANTE and DG AGRI, brought together experts, researchers and innovative project leaders in the search for sustainable and effective solutions for crop protection. LIFE NextFUMIGREEN’s participation reinforces the EU’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and the reduction of chemical pesticide use, in line with the objectives of the European Green Pact.
